It takes a look at that same town and its inhabitants some thirty years later. Duane is now a philandering oil tycoon some 20 million dollars in debt, stuck in a stagnant marriage with obnoxious children. He's a sad and lonely man who feels the only one who loves him is his dog, Shorty, who goes everywhere with him. Another sad and lonely person is Duane's high-school sweetheart Jacy who is mourning the death of her only child. She has returned to her hometown after making films and living in Europe for many years. The story takes a slice of small-town Texas life and explores relationships, lost dreams and life's compromises with reality.
