Buffy, your typical valley type high school cheerleader, with no real sense of what she will do with her life, or even what the real world is about, is having very disturbing, reoccurring dreams. She dreams that she is chasing vampires. As she knows this is not a normal dream, she tells no one, for fear her peers will tease her and think she's "weird". One day a mysterious man approaches her in the school gym and informs her that she must come with him to the graveyard. Buffy thinks that this man is a lunatic, but after he repeats the dreams she's been having to her in detail, she agrees to go with him. When she reaches the graveyard she begins to have second thoughts. Then what they came for happens. A vampire rises from the grave and Buffy begins to realize her destiny and that she is the chosen one...the vampire slayer.
